Abstract

709,723. Washing-machines. LIGHTBOURNE, R. C. April 29, 1952 [April 5, 1951], No. 7881/51. Class 138(2) The invention relates to alternative forms of impeller for the washing machine described in Specification 683,909. Thus the impeller 10 is provided on its working face with a plurality of circumferentially spaced open-ended ducts extending outwardly from a position between its axis of rotation and its periphery. The ducts are preferably of diverging channel or concave form in cross-section and some may have a cross-sectional area substantially less than that of the remaining ducts. The impeller in Fig. 2 has five similar ducts 14, while that in Fig. 5 has two deep ducts 14a and three shallow ones 14b. The impeller may be driven by lugs engaging the sides of webs 13 on the lower side of the impeller or through a clutch facing 19 on a plate 18 screwed to the impeller According to the Provisional Specification the ducts may be of curved form, or arranged at an inclination to the radius.
