Abstract

670,254. Pile fabrics. PAERSE-LAING, Ltd., and LAING, R. Oct. 7, 1949 [Nov. 29, 1948], No. 30858/48. Class 142(iv) A pile fabric comprising a sheet of plastic or rubber, or a sheet coated with plastic or rubber, and having loops of spun yarn adhering to the sheet has a woven tape attached to one or more of its edges on the underside. As described a sheet 1 is formed of polyvinyl chloride and the tape 5 is of cotton or linen. The pile loops 4, which may be of spun wool, cotton, silk, or rayon, are brought into contact with the backing before curing or vulcanising, and during this process they are securely attached to the sheet. The sheet may have a series of parallel flutes 2 to receive the bends of the pile loops, and perforations 8 may be provided in the sheet between the loops. The tape may be impregnated with the material forming the sheet 1 and is attached by the adhesive property of the sheet. A sheet of woven fabric, which may be of cotton, linen, hemp or jute may be attached as a backing. The pile may be cut or uncut, and the material can be used as chenille.
