Abstract

924,301. Double-faced pile fabric; laminates. GREFRATH VELOUR G.m.b.H. Aug. 22, 1960 [Feb. 18, 1960], No. 28943/60. Class 74 (2). A double-faced pile fabric has the pile on one surface consisting of the free ends of the pile warp of the woven or knitted fabric and the pile on the other surface consisting of applied short fibre pieces which are shorter than the free pile ends and are adhered to the fabric by means of an adhesive. The adhesive may be in the form of a water- and solvent-resisting layer, disposed between the short fibre pieces forming one pile and the woven or knitted fabric. The short fibre pieces forming one pile may be normal to the surface of the woven or knitted fabric. The pile surface covered with short fibre pieces may be smoothed by removal of any protruding irregularities, e.g. by grinding, and is made water-repellent by treatment with silicones. At least one intermediate layer may be provided between the woven or knitted base fabrics forming the pile thread ends and the adhesive layer bonding the short fibre pieces. A material which consists of or contains textile bound, i.e. woven or knitted, threads may be provided to form at least one intermediate layer. At least one intermediate layer may be formed by a non-woven material which consists of or contains fibre materials, held together by an adhesive, or by a material which consists of a foil. The intermediate layer may be of polyvinyl chloride, polyester, polyvinyl butyral or polyamide. The intermediate layer may be adhered to the woven or knitted base fabric and then flocked, or the intermediate layer may be flocked first and then adhered to the base fabric. The pile fabric may be figured or styled, e.g. one or both piles may be printed upon or the short fibre pieces or the pile warps may be predried. The short fibrepieces may be of cotton, wool, viscose, cellulose or of other synthetic material, e.g. linear polyamide. Material for the pile warps may consist of wool, rayon or synthetic material. The adhesive may be based on polyesterpolyisocyanate or plasticized polyvinyl chloride compositions, and may contain an expanding agent, e.g. carbon dioxide, ammonium bicarbonate, benzene sulphonic acid, diphenylsulphur-3, and 3<SP>1</SP>-disulphohydrazide.
