Abstract

669,664. Rectilinear-motion bearings. COX & CO. (WATFORD), Ltd., and TOON, C. Aug. 21, 1950 [Aug. 23, 1949], No. 21841/49. Class 12(i). A rectilinear-motion bearing comprises an outer channel member a, and an inner member of cruciform section having balls d arranged to contact opposite sides of a part of the cruciform member. The inner member is formed by bending sheets of spring material into the cruciform shape with one part b<SP>1</SP> extending through a slot c in the outer member a, and the other part b<SP>1</SP> disposed at right angles to the part b<SP>1</SP>. The balls may be maintained in position between the slide members by the natural resilience of the inner member, or a sinuous spring wire may be disposed in the groove formed in the member b<SP>1</SP>. Two or more sets of balls may be located at spaced points in the length of the slide. The bearing is applicable to the sliding seats of motor vehicles, or windows, doors, drawers and other like slidable members.
