Abstract

779,532. Rectilinear-motion bearings. COX & CO. (WATFORD), Ltd., and TOON, C. Oct. 13, 1955 [Oct. 14, 1954], No. 29656/54. Class 12 (1). A rectilinear-motion bearing comprises channel-shaped members 1, 4 which are spaced apart by two helical springs 7 which act as rollers. Balls 6 are located between side flanges 3, 5 on the members 1, 4 respectively. The member 4 is located with respect to the member 1 by the engagement of a spring-pressed plunger 9, operable by a cable 11, in a selected aperture 13 in a plate 12 attached to the member 4. In a modification, a detent 17, Fig. 4, on a pivoted lever 18 is adapted to engage slots 19 in the movable channel member 4. In a further modification, a spring-pressed plunger 21, Fig. 6, operated by a pivoted lever 24, passes' through a hole in the fixed channel member 1 and engages one of a series of holes 23 in the 'movable channel member 4. The invention is applied to sliding seats of motor vehicles or windows, doors or drawers.
