Abstract

852,875. Vehicle windows. WILMOTBREEDEN Ltd. May 6, 1959 [May 19, 1958], No. 15944/58. Class 20(3) A window 8 vertically slidable in a vehicle door 7 and engaging a sealing strip, not shown, on the vehicle body when in the raised closed position with the door closed extends through a guide slot formed in a plastic sealing member 9 at the upper end of the door (which terminates at the waist-line of the vehicle body) and has secured to the lower end portions of each of its side edges a pair of resilient members 10a, 10b which run in guide channel tracks 11 within the door so that during the final raising movement of the window or the initial lowering movement thereof, the plane of the window is tilted angularly. When the members 10a are fully raised into the tapering uppermost portions 11a of the guide channels and are tightly engaged therein, the members 10b are tightly wedged within the lower parts of the portions 11 a of the guide channel 11. To this end the members 10a are formed as smaller bulbous enlargements of the plastic side members 10 of the window 8 than the enlargements 10b. The sealing member 9 has ribs 9a bearing against opposite faces of the window for guiding the window and on each side of the slot oppositely directed flanges 9b to seal the space between the window and the member and the space between the member and the door. The tracks are adjustable in the door by pin and slot connections 14, 15 in the lower part and 17 in the upper part. In a modification the guide channels 11 are of uniform width and have the upper end portions, which are inclined to impart the angular movement to the window, increased in depth to be engaged by upper resilient members on the window only when in the upper part of its travel.
