Class 8 (ii) In apparatus for cleaning the filter of a vacuum cleaner, the filter bag 31 is supported at one end by a yoke having arms 39, 40 pivoted to a bracket 37 secured to the bag ; the yoke is pivoted on a pin 41 carried by a bracket 42 attached to the cleaner casing and a link 46 is pivoted to the bracket 42 and the arm 43. The bag is maintained taut by a pair of torsion springs 47, 48 and the movement of the yoke is limited by stops 51. To shake the bag to remove its contents, a rod 58, having a knob 56, is connected by a flexible cable 57, that passes around pulley 60, to a slide 65 in the bracket 42 ; the slide is connected by a bail 69 to the arms 39, 40. In alternative arrangements, the pulley 60 is arranged with its axis vertical and the cable is connected directly to the yoke. As shown in Fig. 8, a pulley 92 is secured to the shaft 91 on which the yoke is attached and a flexible band 57 is attached to the pulley and is provided with a loop 100. The loop 100 is engaged by a finger 105 so that when the finger is actuated by lever 117, it draws the band along until cam 116 engages a surface 115 to cause the finger to rise and release the loop ; upon release of the lever 117, the finger again engages the loop.
