Abstract

668,216. Lap-forming apparatus. DICK CO., A. B. Nov. 7,1949, No. 28502/49. Class 120(i) [Also in Group VIII] A lap is formed by passing fibres entrained in a gaseous medium through. a first foraminous wall for deposition on a second foraminous wall arranged close to it, by means being present for preventing accumulation of fibres on the first wall. In the embodiment described, air is circulated in ducts 11, 12 by a fan 10, the fibres being fed in by means 30. The fibres are separated and prevented. from accumulating on the first wall 16 by blades 18 of a rotary disintegrator and pass through the wall 16 on to the second wall, a moving screen 21, to form the lap. Air is vented from the duct 11 at 28 so as to cause a slight inflow of air into the system in the region of lap formation. This may be achieved alternatively by having separate fans in separate blower and suction ducts operating at different outputs. Shutters 32 may vary the quantity of deposited fibres in position across the wall 21 and equivalent means may be provided at the entrance to the duct 12. Adhesives may be included in or sprayed on the fibres to form, felt-like structures or boards. A number of fibre depositing systems as described may lay fibre on a single screen such as 21, as described in Specification 668,217.
