Abstract
667,846. Protective arrangements. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. May 16, 1950 [June 18, 1949], No. 12165/50. Class 38 (iv). In a surge diverter of the kind comprising units consisting of a series of spark gaps 3 and voltage dependent resistors 4, the units are arranged in two or more parallel-connected stacks, corresponding intermediate points of the stacks preferably being connected together, as by capacitors, or high-ohmic resistors 9, to ensure simultaneous breakdown of the gaps in the different stacks. A metal voltage-equalizing ring 6 may surmount each stack and the number of spark-gaps may differ from unit to unit in each stack in accordance with the voltage distribution over the stack. Fig. 2 shows another arrangement in which the stacks 11-13 are arranged as a tripod, stayed by insulators 17, 18 containing the intermediate connectors, and surmounted by a stressequalizing " umbrella " 16.
