Abstract
667,807. Lifting-jacks. GRATZMULLER, J. L. Nov. 30, 1949. [Dec. 2, 1948] No. 30772/49. Class 78 (iii). A device for locating a jack under one particular concealed rigid part of any one particular type of vehicle comprises a substantially vertical feeler member secured to the jack and arranged to contact a particular outer part of the car. A wire feeler 4, Fig. 2, has an upstanding portion 8 which contacts the vehicle body 9 when the lifting head 3 is located under a longitudinal chassis beam 2. In a modification, Fig. 4, the feeler is provided with two upstanding portions 8 covered with rubber sleeves 12. In a further modification, Fig. 3. one feeler 8 is provided and the jack head is shaped to co-operate with the chassis beam. The horizontal portions 5 of the feelers in each of the above modifications also serves as a pin to secure the head 3 to the jack screw 6. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the modification shown in Fig. 5 (Cancelled) in which the feeler is clamped to the head 3, and has a rubber faced arm 17 which abuts against the vehicle body 9, and a handle 16 which enables the jack to be manoeuvred with one hand, leaving the other free to manipulate a jack operating handle 10. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
