Abstract

727,114. Lifting jacks. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. June 15, 1953 [June 13, 1952], No. 16481/53. Class 78 (3). In a lifting jack provided with a lifting bar 3 for engagement with a corresponding sleeve on a motor vehicle, the bar is pivoted to the lifting member 2 at 7 and is resiliently urged into a horizontal position by a spring 11 acting on a tubular member 10 which is slidable within the bar 3 and engages the member 2. The pivotal attachment of the bar 3 to the member 2 is effected by means of a fork 8 which is welded to bar 3 and is pivoted on pins 7 extending from the member 2; but in a modification (not shown) the member 8 is pivoted on one side only of the member 2. The Specification states that this arrangement may be applied to any type of lifting jack, but as shown, it is incorporated in a ratchet jack in which the member 2 is raised and lowered on a " T " section rack 4 by oscillation of a handle 6. According to a modification (not shown) the tubular member is replaced by a spring-mounted cam or ball, and the bar 3 is roughened to retain it in the sleeve. In another modification (not shown) the end of bar 3 is bent upwardly to engage a vertically disposed sleeve.
