667,655. Epicyclic gearing. HAVET, A. L. April 20, 1950 [April 21, 1949], No. 9766/50. Class 80 (i). Epicyclic gearing between'the rear wheel of a bicycle and its chain sprocket, driven anti-clockwise by oscillating movements of the pedals, comprises a sun wheel 3 rigid with the wheel hub 1, an. annulus 11 rigid with a plate 10 to which the sprocket is secured, planet wheels 9 mounted on a carrier 6, a pawl 21 extending from a spindle 23 journalled in an enlargement 20 of the fixed axle 4 and coacting with ratchet teeth 22 in the carrier 6 so as to allow forward free-wheeling, and a pin 24 slidable transversely in the spindle 23 and coacting with ratchet teeth 2 in the hub 1 so as to lift the pawl 21 out of engagement with the teeth 22 and thereby allow backward freewheeling.
