667,578. Continuous casting machines. CHADWICK, R., HOBBS, J. F., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 24, 1950 [Nov. 24, 1949], No. 30146/49. Class 83 (i). Means for effecting limited direct cooling of a casting 1 emerging fron the mould 2 of a continuous casting-machine comprise! a spray of coolant liquid from a ring 3 and two spaced compressed air sprays from rings 4, 5, the air sprays acting in opposed directions so that the coolant is stripped fron. the casting at a substantially constant level A-A between the positions of impingement of the two air sprays. The stripped coolant is carried away by an annular screen 6 between the two rings 4 and 5 and substantially level with the lower air spray.
