786,333. Continuous - casting machines. JUNGHANS, S. March 26, 1953 [March 29, 1952], No. 8389/53. Class 83 (1). In a process for continuously casting articles of thin sections, such as pipes, from highmelting-point metals, the casting-jet 5 from a nozzle 16 is directed at an angle against a guidesurface 12 so that the metal does not damage the solidification shell 4 or the portion of the meniscus adjacent the wall of the mould. In a modification, a rotating vessel 29, having three nozzles 30, discharges metal against graphite rings 26. Cooling-fluid passes to and from the mould 22 via pipes 23, 24. The surface of the cast metal is visible. The apparatus may be enclosed to prevent oxidation. In a further modification, the metal is deflected from two graphite rings 41, 42, Fig. 6. The guidesurfaces may be heated or cooled, or may be of such material as to modify the metal chemically or metallurgically. Specification 786,334 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 505,075.
