Abstract

667,356. Valve amplifying and generating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. June 9, 1950, No. 14430/50. Class 40 (vi). In an ultra high-frequency generator or amplifier, two coaxial resonators comprising inner and outer conductors are arranged at an angle with the conductors of one resonator connected to the anode and cathode and the conductors of the other connected between anode and grid of a valve having aligned planar electrodes. By adjusting the effective length of the resonators, the valve may be made to operate as a generator or amplifier. The anode 2 of the valve is earthed for high frequency through an insulating ring 5 arranged between the anode and the outer cylinder 8 of the output line, the inner conductor 13 of which is connected to the cathode 4. The grid is connected through a resistor 16 to a biasing source and is coupled through capacitor 15 to the inner conductor 12 of the input line 9. When operating as an amplifier the input is applied to the coupling loop 21, energy being taken from the anode circuit off coupling loop 19 to give a low impedance output. The frequency of operation may be varied by adjusting the plungers 18, 17 and for a given frequency, plunger 17 is brought out beyond the resonant position to give an inductive effect. When operating as a generator, plunger 17 is pushed in to give a capacitative effect.
