Abstract

602,116. Etectric resonators; high-frequency discharge apparatus. GOODALL, M. C., and WRIGHT, C. S. Oct. 9, 1945, No. 26371. [Class 40 (viii)] [Also in Group XL (a)] A coaxial pair of resonators 2, 4 and 2<1>, 4<1>, forming part of an amplifier or oscillator, are tuned -by means of movable vanes 11 which intermesh with fixed vanes 10 formed upon the inner conductors 4, 4<1>, are carried by an external shaft' 12, and project inwards through gaps in the outer conductors 2, 2<1>. The latter have flanges 9 which are bolted to a central conducting wall 7, and the inner conductors 4, 4<1> are each a quarter or three-quarters of a wavelength long. A valve 1 of the disc-seal type is inserted into the right-hand conductor 4<1> and secured by a sleeve 24, a screw 26 on the anode disc 18 taking into a thread at the end of a rod 28 inside the conductor 4. Spring fingers 21, 22, 23 make contact respectively with the anode disc 18, grid disc 19 and cathode disc 20 of the valve, the heater connection being made at 25. The anode contacts 21 are capacitively connected, through vanes 29, to the end of the inner conductor 4, which forms with the rod 28 a coaxial resonator constituting an inductive anode choke. H.T. positive is connected at 32, and a high-frequency shortcircuit is provided at the left-hand end through a mica washer 31. High-frequency energy is fed to or from the resonators through coupling probes or discs 33 from or to coaxial lines 34.
