Abstract

Decarburized silicon steel is annealed at 850-900 DEG C in a non-oxidizing atmosphere for 4 to 24 hours and then heat-treated at 900-1200 DEG C in a reducing atmosphere for 1 to 8 hours. The steel may contain 1.5-4.0 per cent silicon and may be cold reduced from 0.1 inch to 0.014 inch in two stages with a continuous anneal at 925 DEG C between stages, the final reduction being one of 50 per cent. The second heating may immediately follow the first or may p be carried out some time later. The treatment is stated to produce a silicon steel with good magnetic properties.
