Abstract

667,083. Furnace electrode holders. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. Jan. 25, 1950. [Jan. 25, 1949] No. 1940/50. Class 39(iii). [Also in Group XXV] A clamping device for an electrode 1 of an electric arc furnace has movable articulated clamping shoes, one shoe 2 being pivoted at its ends to shoes 3 themselves connected by pivoted arms 4 to an electrode arm 6 and by pivoted arms 5 to a yoke 7 on an operating rod 8, so that when closed the shoes grip the electrode with equal pressure and when released by retraction of the rod 8 the shoes are compulsorily steered to ensure that a uniform gap exists between the shoes and the electrode. The clamp may be held closed by a spring and opened by electric, hydraulic or pneumatic means. The shoes may be of copper alloy and cooling water circulated therethrough by flexible copper tubes carrying the current. The weight of the electrode is carried by the links 4, 5.
