Abstract

Electrode furnaces.-In a 3-phase furnace with more than two movable electrodes, one arc is regulated in accordance with its current strength, while each of the other arcs is regulated to maintain constant relationship between its pressure and that of the first arc. Regulation tending to maintain equality of electric pressure of the arcs is more sensitive than regulation by current strength, as the pressure variations are greater than the current variations in a 3-phase system. As shown, electrode 1 is adjusted by a motor under control of a contact-making ammeter C' connected to a series transformer. Each of the other arcs is regulated by a motor governed by a pair of differential pressure electro-magnets S<1>, S<2> or S<1>, S<3>, and relays A, B or C, D. Specification 136,500 is referred to.
