Class 7(ii) [Also in Group XXVIII] In an air filtering and sound damping apparatus including a body A, Figs. 1 and 2, defining an internal space having inlet openings, such as four apertures Y, Fig. 3, for air stream filters B carried by the body for cleaning the air passing through the openings, and an outlet opening Z, Fig. 1, and sound deadening material 72, Fig. 2, within the body disposed between the inlet and outlet openings Y, Z respectively, the sound deadening material is provided as a plurality of spaced parallel panels carried in the body. In the form shown the body A comprises a rectangular frame with the top 10, bottom 11, back 12 and front 13 formed by panels of sheet metal or similar material; the front 13 having the outlet Z incorporating a duct 15 arranged with a flange 16 by which the apparatus is attached to a compressor or engine intake for example. The body A has two wedge-like extensions 20, that carry four filter units B, one on each external vertical face, in frames 25, toggle fastenings D being used to hold each filter unit in place. Sheets of sound insulating material 71, Fig. 2, are secured to the inner sides of the top 10. bottom 11 and back 12 of the body A whilst pairs of rectangular sheets of the fibrous sound deadening material 70 are horizontally disposed within the body A. Air enters the apparatus through the filters B and flows between through the passages 85 formed between each adjacent pairs of sheets 72 into the outlet Z. In a modification, the wedge extensions are dispensed with and two filter units only are used, one on each side of the body.
