In an advertising sign comprising a panel or panels 17 formed with transparent or translucent display matter and which has a rotatable drum 43 having thereon bands or otherwise arranged zones of different colours through which light from a source 38 inside the drum is transmitted to the back of the panel so that the display matter appears to change colour as the drum rotates, the drum is provided over its whole surface with closely spaced holes or transparent spots 47 which are of small size relative to the circumference of the drum, and a sheet 21 of hammered glass or other transparent material having an irregular surface is placed between thedisplay panel and the drum. One or more display panel 17 are mounted in a casing 10 and the drum is rotated by a motor 33 through a reduction gear, the motor shaft supporting one end of the drum, the other end being supported by rollers 53 running on circular track in a member 27. The surface of the drum is coloured in longitudinal bands 46 except for the perforations or transparent spots 47. The coloured parts of the drum are translucent. Each display panel 17 is backed by a sheet 21 of hammered glass and is covered with opaque paint except within the outlines of display symbols where it is transparent. Strips having a flat back and a rounded front surface are secured to the transparent parts of the display panel, to act as lenses. The panel, drum and lamp are mounted on a chassis which is detachably secured in the casing 10. The drum may be coloured other than in bands.
