Abstract

734,393. Signs. CLAUDE-GENERAL NEON LIGHTS, Ltd., and SYMMONDS, E. T. Sept. 9, 1954 [Sept. 11, 1953], No. 25201/53. Class 3 (2). An illuminated box sign comprises a hollow frame I which is partially surrounded by a casing portion 9 so as to define therewith a groove for receiving a display panel 4; the panel being slid laterally into the groove and held therein by a second casing portion 17. The sign is illuminated by at least one incandescent filament lamp or at least one hot or cold cathode discharge lamp. The lamp 3 shown is supported by two supply sockets 5 and supports 6. The casing portion 17 is secured to the frame by screws and is provided with hoods 23 for ventilating hobs 22. A casing 24, containing a stray-field step-up transformer 11, is secured to the sign and is provided with suspension eyelets 25 therefor. The display panels may constitute plane sheets or dish-shaped members and may be rectangular, circular or elliptical. The display panel may be formed from transparent acrylic resin sheet having the display matter formed on the inner surface by painting with an acrylic resin-based paint, the inner surface of the panel then being coated with a thin film of translucent acrylic resin-based paint. Alternatively, the panel may consist of a transparent sheet with display matter formed thereon in which case a translucent backing sheet is provided. Again, the display matter may be formed as translucent or transparent characters on an opaque or differently coloured display panel. If desired, one of the display panels shown may be replaced by a metal plate.
