Abstract

666,267. Aerials ; aerial coupling arrangements. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 20, 1950 [March 8, 1949], No. 6228/49. Classes 40 (vii) and 40 (v). An aerial system for centimetre wavelengths suitable for use over a band of frequencies comprises a wave-guide feeder 1 having dipole elements 3 and 4 passing through its walls but insulated therefrom and held in position by a cylinder 7 of polythene in which their inner ends are embedded. The dipole is located at the focus of a parabolic reflector 2, and the end of the wave-guide, which is closed by a conductive plug 10, carries a reflector plate 11. Matching is further improved by the provision of capacitative loading discs 8 and 9 attached respectively to the adjacent ends of elements 3 and 4. Dimensions of the various members are given in terms of the mean operating wavelength, and a graph of variations in resistive and reactive components of the impedance of such an aerial is given for the wavelength range of 3.55 to 3.7 centimetres, Fig. 3 (not shown).
