Abstract

665,989. Hot gas engines. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. April 26, 1948 [April 29, 1947], No. 11454/48. Class 7(i) [Also in Group XIII] A cylinder head for a hot gas engine has a generally cylindrical portion of which the wall presents a corrugated form so as to provide a plurality of recesses the thickness of the portions of the wall defining the recesses being less than three millimetres and the head being manu-. factured by a precision method of casting. The use of a precision method of casting enables the spaces for the passage of the working medium to be formed very accurately. The figures show a cylinder head of a hot gas engine in which a partition 2 forms spaces 5 for a heating medium and spaces 9 for the working medium. Projections.11 and 13 are provided on the walls of the partition for the purpose of increasing the surface area thereof and partitions 12 secured for example by welding are provided for strengthening purposes. The inner and/or outer projections may be integral with the cylinder head. They may also be very thin and formed in large numbers. It is stated that the thickness of the portions of the wall defining the recesses may be less than that required to withstand the forces which arise due to the pressure of the working medium. A strengthening ring may surround a cylindrical portion of the head.
