Abstract
964,387. Rotary-piston internal combustion engines. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. Nov. 16, 1962 [Nov. 18, 1961], No. 43482/62. Heading F1F. The housing of a rotary-piston I.C. engine having a working chamber 13, Fig. 1, of trochoidal shape in which moves a three-sided piston having curved working faces, comprises side portions 11, 12, Fig. 3, and a middle portion 10 formed with a fuel-air mixture inlet 14 and a combustion gas outlet 15. To overcome difficulties which arise due to uneven heating of the middle portion around the working chamber with consequent unequal expansion, the inner wall parts 10<SP>1</SP> of the middle portion 10 associated with the combustion side of the chamber in which the higher temperatures occur are chamfered as at 19, Fig. 4, to leave a gap 20 to allow the relatively hotter wall part 10<SP>1</SP> to expand sufficiently during operation of the engine. The middle portion and side portions are made hollow for the circulation of coolant.
