Abstract
665,042. Dry shavers. BELL, G. W., and FRAENKEL, G. J. Oct. 6, 1950. [Aug. 25, 1949] No. 22108/49. Class 131. A dry shaver, of the kind comprising a partly cylindrical apertured cutting plate, connected to a handle, and a number of co-operating moving blades, is characterised in that each end of the cutting plate is provided with a rigid end plate which supports, externally, one of a pair of wheels rotated by contact with the skin and of slightly greater radius than the cutting plate, at least one of the wheels being formed internally with gear teeth which mesh with a gear wheel driving a smaller gear wheel mounted on a spindle supporting the cutting blades and extending through the end plates co-axially with the cutting plate. As shown, the cutting plate 1, apertured at 2, is secured to end plates 5, 6 and to the limbs 3 of a U-shaped bracket provided with a handle 4. Co-operating, trough-shaped, cutting blades 23 are mounted by radially-arranged supports 21 on a sleeve 19 of a spindle 11 which is rotated through gear wheels 8, 13 and gear teeth 15 formed on the internal rim of the wheel 16 which is driven by frictional contact with the skin.
