Abstract

664.604. Centrifugal pumps. BERESFORD & SON, Ltd., J. Feb. 7, 1950 [Feb. 14, 1949], No. 3948/49. Class 110(i) An electrically - driven centrifugal pump adapted to be submerged in a well bore comprises a number of thrust bearings which have passages or grooves which act upon lubricant in the manner of an impeller so as to circulate it through and around the bearings. Fig. 2 shows one of the thrust bearings, comprising a stationary ring e, a rotary ring f secured to the driving shaft q, and an intermediate wearresisting ring g, which may be of a synthetic material. The upper face of the ring e is formed with transverse grooves, and the rings f and g have oblique passages h. Lubricant, which is preferably an emulsion of oil or grease in water or other liquid, passes upwards through passages i and is impelled through passages h.
