Abstract

663,713. Ball-and-float valves. MASON H. L. Sept. 23, 1946 [Sept. 25, 1945], No. 24849/45. Class 135. A ball-and-float inlet valve for a cistern comprises an inlet body member 2 secured in the wall of the cistern by a screw and nut, a hollow outlet member 1 formed with an internal shoulder between which and the inlet body member a removable seating ring 10 is gripped, and a valve closure member 21 which can slide through the central aperture in the seating ring. The latter is backed up by a flexible sealing ring 11, and the member 1 is secured to the inlet 2 by a screwed collar 8. The stem 20 of the valve is secured in a cylindrical member 15 by means of a screw or wire 25, and the member 15 is provided with a boss 27 for the usual float lever and is also formed with helical flutes 14 engaging with similar flutes in the interior of the member 1 so that, as the member 15 is rotated by the rise and fall of the float lever, the valve closure member will shut and open. A silencing pipe 13 is fixed to the outlet. In a modification, the forward end of the valve closure member carries guide vanes, and the float lever actuates the valve through a simple link.
