Abstract

663,002. Goggles. ROGERS, T. J., and ROGERS, J. A. June 15, 1950 [June 3, 1949], No. 15005/49. Class 97 (i). Goggles comprise a strip of material consisting of two parallel beadings connected by a flat band, which strip is bent to form a frame, one of said beadings being slit around its inner periphery to form a channel in which are located the edges of a sheet of transparent material forming an eye-piece, the frame and sheet being formed to provide a recess for the nose in the lower portion. As shown, the frame 2 of yieldable material, e.g. rubber, or plastic, has tubular beadings and is bent to the shape shown, and the inner beading 4 which engages the face is cut away at the lower portion to leave only the other beading 5. This beading is slit to provide a channel 6 engaging the edges 7 of the eye-piece 1 which has a central recess for the nose. The single strip of beading 5 is held in this recess by a strap 8a engaging press-studs on the sheet 1. The latter may also be held in place by straps 13 and 14. In a modification, the sheet 1 is generally oval and has a portion pressed forwardly to provide a recess for the nose. Adjacent this recess the edge of the sheet has two slits into which the unslit ends of the tubular beading 5 are engaged to hold the beading in tension around the sheet. A short piece of beading may be attached to the lower surface of the nose recess and a strap may hold the top of the sheet within the channel in the beading. The beading may be attached to the sheet by adhesive, clips, staples or stitching.
