Abstract

662,490. Hand knitting devices. FIBRA AKT.-GES. June 17, 1949 [June 19, 1948], No. 16211/49. Class 74 (ii). A hand knitting device comprises two pin needle beds 9, 14 to each of which the fabric is transferred alternately to enable a plain fabric to be produced. At the commencement of a course one pin needle bed 9 is positioned on the device support 1 with the fabric hanging in front of it whereupon movable members 2 are inserted between the needles and operated by a slide from one side of the device to draw a yarn into loops between themselves and the pin needles. The fabric is then thrown over the heads of the needles to the rear of the support 1, as shown in Fig. 2, so that the previous course loops slip over the last course loops. The second pin needle bed 14 is then inserted in brackets 17, the heads of the pins of the two beds being grooved to interengage, and the fabric transferred to the second pin needle bed 14. The bed 14 then replaces the bed 9 and a further course is knit as before except in this case the yarn is drawn from the opposite side and the members 2 are operated by a slide advancing from the side opposite from that of the first slide. To knit pearl fabric one pin needle bed is used it being reversed after each operation.
