Abstract
661,853. Discharge apparatus. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. April 21, 1947 [April 22, 1946], No. 10574/47. Class 39 (i). A flexible rubber-like cooling jacket for a glass tube has end portions in the form of axially extending flanges adapted to be clamped in liquid-tight engagement with the tube, and inlet and outlet openings formed in the jacket adjacent its ends, the jacket being formed to provide an internal helical groove extending from the inlet to the outlet so that when the jacket is mounted on the tube liquid can flow in a helical stream in direct contact with the surface of the tube from the inlet to the outlet. In the Figure the glass wall of the mercury vapour rectifier has a rubber jacket 28 clamped to it at 30, 31. A wire 33 is attached to the clamps and wound spirally round the groove 28d in the rubber to form the spiral passage for the cooling liquid. The rectifier has a mercury cathode 9 and a mercury reservoir 12; the latter may be heated by a heating element 20 to vaporize the mercury which forms a jet passing through apertures in the head 15 and hood 10 to impinge on the cathode. An electrode 22 is provided to allow ionization of the jet. The wall of the rectifier may be provided with a layer of heat-resistant insulating material where the jacket is clamped to the wall; the material may be of " Silicone Rubber," or of the material known commercially as " Silastic ". Specification 656,641 is referred to.
