Abstract
<PICT:0890306/III/1> A de-frost water evaporating unit comprises a tank 1 with an inlet pipe 2 which admits water into the tank. A pipe 8 leads water from the tank into the lower end of a boiling tube 7 which is wound helically about an electric heater 5 and has its upper part projecting into a cylindrical chimney 10 having baffle plates 14. The heater 5 is surrounded by a concentric tubular body 6 which is mounted at its lower end on the top of a liquid-tight chamber 3 having vents 4 to the atmosphere so that air rises into the chimney to evaporate water droplets from tube 7. In operation the heater is energized by switch means 16 at a predetermined level of water, boiling occurs in the lower part of the tube 7 and steam and water droplets are carried up the tube into the chimney 10 to strike the inverted cap 13. Steam escapes through the perforations 17 in the chimney cap 12 and water falls on to the upper-most of the baffle plates 14 from whence it is guided by a wire helix 15 down the wall of the chimney where it is met and further evaporated by a current of convected air from the vents 4 which is heated by passage through the tubular body 6.
