Abstract
629,253. Electric air heaters. DRYDEN, & SONS, Ltd., T., and BARRS, J. W. April 29,1946, No. 12796. [Class 39(iii)] In an electric heater, an electric heating element proper 17 is enclosed within a tubular member formed by interfitting finned elements 19 each of which has a tubular portion stepped in longitudinal section between its ends before assembly of the elements so as to provide a socket part 23 and a spigot part 22, the socket part being flanged to provide a fin 21 and the interior surface of the tubular member being substantially even. The heating element 17 is in the form of a nickel chrome wire wound on a threaded tubular refractory member and runs at 900-1000‹C. The inner face of the tubular member is coated with a heat absorbing layer such as lamp black. The heater may be mounted in a case (not shown) having air inlets at the bottom and an outlet at the top to form a convection heater. Specification 474,503, [Group XIII], is referred to.
