Abstract
524,562. Electric heating. PETERSON, T. F. Dec. 3, 1938, No. 35283. Convention date, Dec. 9, 1937. [Class 39 (iii)] A wire, rod or the like is heated by radiation from an elliptical reflecting surface the rod being at one focus and the heating element at the other. A wire 14 is guided by a reel 13. through a heating device 10 and on to a second guiding sheave 16 from which it passes down a cooling tower 19 and is drawn on to a spool 20. The metal wall of the elliptical tower has an internal reflecting surface 31, the wire passing in at a bushing 38 in the base 39 the bushing being at one focus and a heating element 40 at the other focus. The rod 40 may be electrically heated or a gas-fired hollow tube. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes a modification Fig. 3 (Cancelled), in which the heater has sides 52, 53 of parabolic form and heat is provided by flat plates 55, 56. rays normal to the surface of these plates being reflected and concentrated on a common focus 51. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 173,210, [Class 39 (iii)].
