Abstract
772,033. Electric infra-red heaters. BRECHENMACHER, K. Jan. 19, 1955 (Jan. 22, 1954]. No. 1604/55. Class 39(3) [Also in Group XIII] An infra-red heater especially for drying varnish is constructed as a hand radiator with a handle d on a reflector with double walls a, b forming a cavity to which gas is supplied under pressure through a conduit with a tap h, the gas passing through apertures g in the reflector a to pass over sources e of visible or invisible radiation mounted in the reflector a. The radiating source e is a spiral quartz tube con- taining a resistance heating wire. A further electric heater f is mounted within the gas cavity of the reflector, the gas nozzles g of which are widened conically towards their ends. The air or other gas is set into oscillation by an electromagnetic oscillatory element i. which is mounted in the gas cavity and may act directly on a wall of the reflector. An ultra-violet ray emitter k mounted on the front of the reflector is cooled by gas issuing through the nozzles g and has a small reflector l screening the emitter from the heat source e. A gas, e.g. nitrogen may be chosen to eliminate danger of ignition of vapours from the surface being dried.
