Abstract

661,055. Smoking appliances. MOUNTAIN GREY APIARIES, Ltd., and WILKINSON, F. A. April 6, 1950 [April 6, 1949], No. 9384/ 49. Class 81 (i). A beekeeper's smoking appliance is constructed so that air blown across an aperture in the top of a canister containing burning material sucks smoke therefrom by venturi action whilst combustion air enters at will at the bottom. As shown a canister 1 for burning material is provided with a port 4 at the top which joins an open-ended duct 3 at a constructed portion intermediate its ends. Air from a bellows 6 passes through an aperture 9 into the duct 3 and draws smoke from the port 4 for discharge admixed with air through a laterally elongated orifice 5 whilst air entering between the wall of the canister 1 and the flange of a base 10 passes upwards through a grid 14. In a modification, the duct is constructed by bending sheet metal, and welding or soldering it to the top of a canister, the construction in the duct and the aperture in the canister being made by stamping up a tongue.
