[Class 138(i)] An apparatus for washing drinking glasses and the like comprises two adjoining compartments one capable of holding water and containing three vertical power driven brushes which when in use are totally immersed in the water, the middle brush being formed to clean the interior of an inverted glass with the two other brushes contacting the outside of the tumbler, while the other compartment permits water to escape freely from it and contains a valve operable by pressing an inverted glass downwardly against a displaceable platform to cause a jet of water to be projected into the glass. The apparatus comprises a cleaning compartment 5 and a rinsing compartment 6, both housed in a casing 1. Three detachable brushes 10, 11 are mounted in the compartment 5 and are all driven in the same direction from an electric motor 4. The middle brush 11 has a rounded top to facilitate the cleaning cf the interior bottom of a tumbler. When in use the compartment 5 is filled with water from hot and cold supply taps 26 until the brushes are immersed, a drain plug being inserted in the drain pipe 28. The rinsing compartment 6 is continually open to the drain pipe 28 through one leg of a Y fitting 29, the other leg of which is connected to an overflow pipe of the compartment 5. The compartment 6 has a single spray jet 13 for rinsing the interior of a tumbler and a spray ring 14 for rinsing the exterior of the tumbler. As shown in Fig. 4 the jet 13 is operated by depressing a circular platform 25 to open a valve 15 against the action of a spring 20 so that water flows from a supply pipe 21 to the jet 13. Simultaneously water is supplied to the spray ring 14 through pipes 23 under regulation by a needle valve 24.
