Abstract

659,521. Electric cables. PETCAR RESEARCH CORPORATION. May 21, 1949, No. 13620. Convention date, Aug. 6, 1948. [Class 36] A high-temperature-resistant cable comprises at least one conductor 20 having a plurality of fire-resistant ceramic beads 22 fused thereon, the spaces between the beads being filled with moistureproof insulation 24, and the whole assembly being enclosed in tubing 26. The insulation 24 may completely cover the beads 22, or may end flush with the outer surface of the beads, in which case the beads are treated with a moisture-proofing material. The tube 26 may act as the outer conductor of a concentric cable, and may be externally insulated by ceramic rings 30 and insulation 32, similar to the insulation 24. Rubber or a rubber substitute is preferably used for the insulating and moisture-proof layers 24 and 32.
