Abstract
659,488. Motor driving arrangements. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 23, 1949, No. 29966. Convention date, Dec. 3, 1948. [Class 35] [Also in Groups VII and XXIV] A sewing-machine is driven through a clutch comprising a driving element 9, a driven element 12, and a brake 10, the driven element being movable into engagement with either of the other members and being held normally in a neutral position, free from either of these members, by yielding means. In the arrangement shown, the brake 10 is carried by a fixed mounting, the driving element 9 is integral with the rotor 7 of a three-phase electric motor, and the driven element 12 is mounted for axial movement in bearings in a hub 13 of the casing. This axial movement is effected by angular movement, about the axis of the clutch, of a U-shaped lever 17 connected by a pull-rod 19 to a centrally-pivoted treadle and having screwthread engagement with the casing hub, and the lever 17 is engaged above and below by spring- pressed plungers such as 29 which hold it in its neutral position; the plungers are carried by an adjustable bracket 20.
