Class 23 [Also in Group XXXIV] A machine for drying washing and having an aggregate comprising a centrifugal drum 5, Fig. 1, a shaft 7, a bearing case 8, and an electric motor 10, is provided with a braking dev'ce constituted by a band surrounding the shaft in a plane at right angles thereto, one end of the band being connected to the shaft and the other end being connected to a disc forming part of the driving gear and rotatable about the shaft, a brake drum secured to the bearing case being arranged concentrically with respect to the band. The disc 26 Fig. 2, is belt-driven from the motor and carries an angle-piece 34 to which one end of the brake band 32 is attached, the other end of the band being secured to an angle-piece 37 secured to an arm 40, Fig. 4, on a collar 21 fixed to the shaft by a screw 22. When the motor is started the pulley 11 rotates in the direction of the arrow and the band is pushed away from the brake drum 28 until it engages the inner wall of the disc pulley 26 or until the piece 37 abuts the extremity 42 of the aperture 38. When the motor is stopped the band closes on to the drum. A spring 43 interconnecting the disc and the arm 40 may be provided to urge the band toward the drum. The bearing case is integral with a container 17 which is supported by springs 15 from an outer casing 1 provided with rubber feet 3.
