Abstract

A bearing for a rapidly rotating shaft 2 is resiliently supported by a suspension-member 4, one end of which extends to a flange 9, having a securing-ring 7 inserted therein, and the other end of which is attached to a cup-shaped member 8 of non-resilient material, having a hole 12 therein to receive the shaft 2 therethrough. The suspension-member 4 is thickened at 10 to give added strength and is extended at 11 so as to serve as a seal. In an embodiment, a centrifuge drum 3 is mounted on the shaft 2 which is driven by an electric motor 1, the latter being attached to the member 8 by screws (not shown) and the assembly being resiliently supported by the member 4 which is attached by screws, fitted in the securing-ring 7, to a partition 5 of a housing 6. Drilling 13 Fig. 3, (not shown), are provided to allow escape of fluid collected within the member 4 and the extension 11 forms the seal between the member 4 and the motor 1.
