Abstract

688,800. Sewing-machines. UNION SPECIAL MACHINE CO. April 12, 1951 [May 18, 1950] , No. 8513/51. Class 112. [Also in Groups XXV, XXXII and XXXIV] Stands; driving.-A sewing-machine and its driving means are secured to a member which is mounted on a supporting member by vibration-absorbing means. In the embodiment shown, a column 12 carries a bracket 14 on which is mounted, by bolts incorporating rubber or other vibration-absorbing material (see Group XXV), a plate 89 with a depending flange; a feed-off-the-arm sewing-machine 29 is fixed to the flange with its work-arm below the bracket 14, and a driving motor 39 for the machine is mounted on the plate by bolts passing through vibration-absorbing sleeves in the motor base and engaging slots in the plate so that the motor can be adjusted to tighten the belt 42 by which it drives the machine 29. The bracket 14 is roughly L-shaped in plan, one limb lying to one side of the column and carrying the motor while the other extends to the front of the post and carries the machine 29 on the side opposite to the first limb; the part adjacent to the machine is made thicker, to reduce vibration. The clutch by which the motor drives the belt pulley is actuated by a treadle 57 pivoted on the base carrying the column 12, through a rod passing up the column and resiliently engaging the clutch-actuating yoke 64. Another treadle 56 serves to lift the presser-foot of the machine. A hand-wheel 47 has a stem with a socket screwed on to the end of the shaft of the driving pulley. A welded cover for the motor and associated parts, shown in chaindotted lines, is attached to the bracket 14 by pins with rubber sleeves frictionally engaging holes in the latter.
