[Class 20(iii)] A window structure in which a window pivots as well as slides comprises a sash frame 22 with pivot pins 26 extending into a pair of vertical rails 24 sliding with the sash in grooves in the window frame 10. The marginal edges of the sash frame and the adjacent edges of the slide rails have grooves 32, 28 facing each other, and vertical locking bars 34 in the sash grooves 32 have inclined slots 58 engaged by pins 50 fixed in the side walls 52, 54 of the sash frame, so that the bars 34 move diagonally in and out of engagement with the slide rail grooves 28. The bars 34 are urged into locking position in the grooves 28 by a compression or other spring 60 bearing on the top of the bars 34. Thus when the bars 34 are lifted diagonally against the springs 60 by digital pressure at their lower ends 66 out of engagement with the grooves 28 in the slide rails 24, the window may be pivoted about the central pins 26. The locking bars 34 are operated to allow pivoting only when the sash has been moved from closed position. The structure may comprise two windows sliding in parallel grooves in the frame. When the sash frame is pivoted, the springs 60 press the bars 34 against the slide rails 24. A metal weather strip 46 between the slide rails 24 and the window frame channels reduces rattling. The window structure may be wholly of metal, the glass 82 being held by a spring metal member 86 wedged between a liner 84 on the glass and an extension 88 of the sash frame.
