Abstract

658,817. Wood cutting and working machines. WADKIN, Ltd., and SIMS, W. L. March 17, 1949, No. 7276. [Class 145(i)] [Also in Group XXXV] In a machine tool having an electric motor on the rotor spindle of which a cutter or circular saw is mounted the girth of the stator casing is kept as small as possible in the cutting region to permit a substantial depth of cut for the cutter. As shown the motor is provided with a stator 2 and a rotor 3 the spindle 4 of which is supported in bearings 8, 9 mounted in the stator casing 12 which presents a flat face 12a towards the work, the casing 12 being rectangular in cross-section allowing ducts 13 for cooling air to be provided. The currents of air may be induced by a fan 14 or by an extractor and the rotary cutter 7<SP>1</SP> may be replaced by a circular saw.
