[Also in Group XXIII] A wood-working machine, such as a band saw, has an alternating current -motor 3 for driving the saw blade and a direct currentgeared motor 8 for feeding the work-table 4, the motor 8 being reversible and controlled by gears 12, 14 to give a substantially stepless variation in speed. The current for the motor 8 is rectified in a ventilated compartment 15 by such means as a copper-oxide rectifier, vacuum tubes or transistors or by a potentiometer in the control box 12, which is mounted on or close to the work-table 4.
