Abstract

658,712. Door-operating appliances. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. June 3, 1949, No. 14937. Convention date, June 26, 1948. [Class 65(i)] [Also in Group XXX] A door operating system comprises operating mechanism, a slotted member secured to the door, an expansible vane assembly associated with the mechanism and disposed for reception in the slot when the mechanism is to function, and expansion mechanism responsive to the operation of the door operating mechanism for expanding the vane assembly within the slot. The vane assembly is carried by the sliding door 19 of a lift cage, and the slotted member (not shown) by the lift shaft door. The cage door is operated by an electric motor 27 through a linkage 29, 43, 37 and 45, the latter link being pivotally connected to a bracket 47 secured to the door. Fixed to the bracket is a vane 63 which carries bearings 67, 69 for a rotatable vane 65 biassed by spring means towards the fixed vane. The vanes are arranged to enter the slot when both doors are closed. At the position shown in chain lines, during the opening movement of the door 19, a cam 85 formed by an extension of the link 45 is adapted to rotate the vane 65 into engagement with the side of the slot opposite to that engaged by the fixed vane. The cam is made from, or is tipped with. lubricantimpregnated plastic material. The slotted member is made from fabric impregnated with resilient plastic material, and is adapted to yield if the vane assembly and slot are misaligned.
