Abstract

1382707 Up-and-over door and window operating mechanisms P C HENDERSON Ltd 30 May 1973 [30 May 1972] 25147/72 Heading E2M A window or more particularly, as described up-and-over-door 19 mounted in a frame 20 by top-hung arms (not shown) and rollers 13 running in vertical tracks 14 is opened and closed by a mechanism comprising co-axial spools 5, 6 driven through gearing 7 by an electric motor 18, the spools having oppositely wound cords 8, 9 respectively of which the cord 9 is attached directly to the spindle 4 of the respective roller 13 and the cord 8 passes over a pulley 3 and back to an attachment on shaft 4. Brackets 16 and 22, mounted on tracks 4 respectively carry pivoted arms 1 and 2, the former having a cord connection 11 with a door catch 10 and the latter being spring biassed in the direction of the arrow away from a bracket 12 mounted on the door. The cord 8, between spool 5 and roller 3, passes over, and is deflected out of its direct path by, arms 1 and 2 so that upon operation of spool 5 arm 2 is initially urged by cable 8 into contact with bracket 12 and arm 1 is rocked thereby actuating the door catch mechanism. Thereafter arm 2 bearing on bracket 12 gives the door an initial rocking movement so that cord 8 when straightened can complete the door opening movement. Operation of motor 18 in the opposite direction will, through cord 9, close the door. Microswitches 15 and 17 are provided to cut out the motor when the door is fully open or closed respectively.
