Abstract

658,696. Electromagnetic switches. WEST & CO.. Ltd., A., and POTTER, W. April 8, 1949, No. 9610. [Class 38(v)] The movable maintaining contact 3 of an electromagnetic switch is coupled by means of a resilient connection 13 with the armature 5 and main contacts (not shown) and is controlled by a time-delay device 19 so that it will only engage or disengage contacts 4 some time after the main contacts close or open. Thus a shock or jerk which temporarily operates the main contacts will not operate the maintaining contacts and the electromagnet 2 which is in series with the maintaining contacts will remain de-energized or energized as the case may be. The armature 5 is fixed to a shaft 7 which is coupled by the spring 13 to a spider 9 carrying an insulating ring 10 with a conducting insert 3 and the spider is connected by a rod 14 with a crank on a shaft 18 connected to a train of gearing ending in a fly-wheel 6.
