Abstract
658,276. Submersible liquid heaters. SKINNER, A. J. Sept. 30, 1949, No. 14323. [Class 64(i)] [Also in Groups II and XII] A submersible heater for heating fluids, e.g. oils and varnishes, or for melting spelter &c., comprises in one form two metal, alloy or refractory tubes 1, 3 which enclose a space containing a liquid, e.g. oil, or a fusible material such as a salt or a metal, e.g. lead, to transmit heat to the outer tube from hot gases flowing downwardly through a third coaxial tube 9 from a gas burner 10 at its upper end and then upwardly through the annular space between the tubes 3, 9. The tube 9 is provided internally and/or externally with one or more fins 13. In a modification the hot gases, instead of passing up through the annular space, flow up through one or more further tubes connected to the lower end of the tube 3 and enclosed by the outer tube 1. These further tubes contain a central cylindrical plug or tube with closed ends, so that the gases again have annular paths.
