Abstract

657,334. Cutting vegetables. BROOKS, E. Nov. 22, 1948, No. 30237. [Class 5(i)] A machine for preparing vegetables for poultry or other livestock comprises a receptacle A, Fig. 1, in which is rotatably mounted a perforated disc J, whose perforations have raised edges to form inclined cutting surfaces J<SP>1</SP>, there being beneath the disc a rotor H with blades H<SP>2</SP> which deliver the cuttings tc a delivery opening in the wall of the receptacle. The disc and rotoi shown are removable as a unit from studs G<SP>2</SP> on a driving plate G pinned on a driving shaft F. The shaft is driven through belt and pulley means G<SP>1</SP>, K, L, by an electric motor L<SP>1</SP>. The rotor is mounted immediately above a base D from which the cuttings are swept to the delivery opening which is covered by a hood M. The cut vegetables may be put in a perforated container Q, Fig. 8, which is placed in the container A and driven by the motor to extract the vegetable juices. In a modification the machine comprises two containers, one for cutting the vegetables and the other for housing the container Q, and a single electric motor is used for driving the two driving plates. A cam device, in this latter construction, can be used to lift the container Q clear of its driving plate.
